FOOD: LOTS OF IT

This week in world geography we had to turn in our food projects. Many people didn't do them till the last day. i was not included. I had not though finished getting all my agricultural data from the website along with many other kids. To my delight, the site crashed that night and me and a bunch of students couldn't get our data. I ended up finding another site to get the data from which i told the rest of my classmates. My teacher though, even though she was angry, decided to give us one more day to work on it but if we used that day we would get 5 points taken off our project. I turned it in on time, but many of my classmates didn't because once she said those words all my classmates gave up on finding data. We also took a test on south asia and then we started to learn about east asia. On firday, we had a food day where kids could bring for extra credit food that they researched and shre it with the class and of course eat it. This week was really fun.
I plan to got this summer to Israel. My whole family lives there other than my immediate family and 2 aunts in new jeresy. I have like 22 cousins there. I haven't seen them in areally long time, almost 2 years. I will be there most of summer, but i don't mind. I have fun there and time flies really. Some people ask if i want to be in austin at all this summer. Not really becuase it gets pretty boring. All myfirends go on vacation to, so i don't see them at all. I am stuck at home watching T.V. all day which can get pretty boring. I am really looking forward to this summer.

Seminar on Religion

This week in world geography we had a seminar on religion. This took place on Tuesday morning for 3 hours. we had a budhist, muslim, christian, rabbi, and a hindu person speak. It was really enjoyable. I learned a lot from them. for instance, everytime i would pretend to meditate, i would say ommmm for fun beecause i thought it was a joke. Turns out it is very much true. The hindu person told us that evrytime he meditates (for real) he says it. I was shocked. I had no idea that for the past 14 years of my life, my whole life, i had made fun of that religion. I do not think though that i will chanfge religions though. No matter how good a seminar is, i like my religion and i want to keep it. We also watched a video about some blood sports, fighting, that is in some cultures. I was shocked that some people beat each other up for their culture and for fun. We also watched a video on Mount. Everst and did a review over the region South Asia.
One place i want ot visit, thatr i learned about this year, is Europe. I have been there before, but i did not understand anything because i was very young. Now i want to go there because i already have some knowledge on the place plus i want top tour the places in Europe such as France, Spain, and Italy some more.

Back On!!!

This week in World Geography, we didn't learn much. This was our TAKS week. TAKS is a test given by the Texas to asses the students. In soime grades, if you don't pass the TAKS, you don't graduate. Luckilly for 9th graders like myself, we don't have to pass the class plus the TAKS is really easy. If you don't pass the TAKS though you have to take a class that helps you study for TAKS. There are five TAKS tests. A writing, science, social studies, math, and reading tests. 9th graders only took the math test this week, but we had to wait for all the other grades to finish their tests which took the wohole week almost. My teacher didn't want to overload us with a lot of information this weeks so she let us relax in her class. We did learn though about Myanmar. We are going to be talking to religious leaders next week and she wants us to know some background information on Buddhists and their monks. Other than that that's all we did this week.
I have decided to tell you a little more about myself in these next couple of blogs. Up ubntil now I have told you what I did the following week. When i grow up, i want to be a doctor. There are some people who just don't like science and ask me how i can be that? I am much different. Science interests me. Not all sciences. I can live without learning about Physics or chemistry, but biology and anatomy i couldn't live without. I planned out my future already and i know exactly what courses i am going to take next year and in college before i go to medical school. Even though the course may be long and has a lot of work, I know I can accomplish it if I try hard.

WORK WORK WORK ETC.

This week in world geography was really busy. On monday we just relaxed becuase we were ahead of the other classes. This really helped me since i was packed with homework from all my other teachers. On tuesday we went on to learn about religion. We had an assignment to do with this topic. We had to make a poster showing all the facts about are religion. we also had to draw a map showing where this religion was followed as well as make 5 question that could be answered from our poster. This was a lot of work, but my group was really on task and fun to work with with, so i enjoyed this assignment. On wednesday we took a map test over the middle east. it wasn't that hard even though i hadn't studied the night before because i forgot! On thursday we continued to work on our assignment and today we presented them. I think my group did a good job. Overall this was a busy week in world Geography.
This week, i stayed pretty much at home. I was packed with homework as i have already told you before, so this was pretty much just a work week. We had to complete an argument paper about illegal immigration in the u.s. I said to keep them because we need them. Austin agrees with me well. This city is very liberal which means it is very free and not that strict. We don't hate gay people here. That is just Austin. if you want some freedom this is the place for you. We have a lto of music here since austin is the music capital in texas! If you want a great vacation this palce is for you. I also was introduced to 2 field trips. One is to seas world and one is to all these aquifers in texas. I am really excited. Finally!!!! a break from school!

BUSY BUSY BUSY WEEK

This week in world geogrpahy we started literally learning about southwest Asia. Even though we had already started the unit last week, we actually started to learn it this week. When we start a unit we just draw the maps and do the vocab. This week our teacher actually started teaching us about Southwest Asia. We first learned about the water conflict in southwest Asia. It doesn't get much water during the year, so you have to live by a body of water in order to get a constant supply of water. We then started learning about Iraq. We learned it's history and back round information. I enjoyed this a lot. We had a little activity this week about whether the ethnic group we were assigned would split from Iraq and become a separate country or if we should stay united with Iraq. My group decided to split, but once we debated about the topic, we changed our mind to stay with Iraq.
This week i didn't do much. I went to a party on Monday which was really fun. i got to see my friends and catch up with them. I don't see them much due to all the homework i get :(. Some bad news this week was that i found out i can't go to Israel this summer. This group i asked to go to Israel with said they were full and couldn't take me. I was kind of disappointed, but i moved on. I believe that you can't always look at the past. You have to move on with your life. Even though this week had it's ups and downs, it was a pretty good week.

Middle East

This week in geography we started learning about the middle east. it is a very interesting place because of all the events going on there. Technically we are learning about southwest Asia, but all the students consider it the middle east because the the majority of the countries in this region are also in the middle east. We drew 2 maps of Southwest Asia. One physical map showing rivers and mountains etc. The other map was a political map. It showed the countries and cities in the region. On Thursday we turned in our African Masks. This was a project we were assigned about 3 weeks ago. We had to make a tribe that represents a spirit of Africa. It was really fun. My mask was made of Air dry clay, which i had some difficulty using, but it turned out really nice at the end. We are currently presenting our masks in class.
This week was pretty steady compared to last week. This was pretty much a pretty busy week workwise. I had to do a lab in biology about bacteria plus research a disease, but it was easy. One thing i did that i like was i went to see a movie. I wanted to be nice to my little brother and went to see a movie for him. The movie we saw was Horton sees a who. It is a Dr. Seuss Book. he writes a bunch of books for little kids with deaper meanings for adults such as The cat in the hat. We went to a theater called Regal gateway. It is a huge theater with 15 screens (each showing movie) inside. The good thing i like about this theater is that it has a great refreshment section (plus the movies!). They have so many snacks you can choose from. They have rewards for buying a large size of something. For instance if you get a large dring or Popcorn, you can get free refills!. That's a pretty good deall if you ask me because the prices are not that expensive:) event though this week was busy it was a good week.

I did so well on this geometry test i took yesterday. i usually don't do so well on these types of tests, but this time id aced it. I haven't gotten the grade back yet, but i feel rela good baout this test. everyone said they had a hard time with it, so i thought that i might have done bad as well, but then i thought about how much i had studied which was why the test was pretty easy for me. i still have to take a 5 question portion of the test today, but the big portion of it is behind me. I am so proud of muself! :)

Costume Party and Geography

This week in geogrpahy we learned about Africa. We also took a test on Africa on Wednesday. this was our first test in a long time, so i had to get back to my study habits....even though i didn't want to. This was our first test with an essay and map questions on it. We usually have a separate map test and we never have essay tests. This was a lot to study for in one night, since I didn't study at all during spring break. I think i did pretty well on the test, but i am still nervous about what my grade will be. I'll be getting the test back on Monday!!! We also learned more about Darfur. We alreday had a socratic seminar over it, but we never watched a movie about it, so that's what we did this week. It was really good. It gives you a better perspective and picture of what is going on in Darfur.
This week had so many stuff happening in it. I went to a basketball game and a costume party. The costume party was part of a jewish holiday. Most jewish holidays involve praying, but this one doesn't. It is pretty much a bunch of parties. It's really fun. the holiday is called Purim. This is one of my favorite holidays. I could celebrate it because i was off from school. Good friday fell on the same day as Purim! I condsider this very lucky. I also went to a basketball game this week. it was between the San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics. I was going for the Celtics even though the Spurs are a texas team. The Celtics won by one basket. I was so excited, but my brother was not. It bothgered me at first, but then i just told myself that he would get over it, which he did. This week might have been really busy, but it was really fun!!!!

This is the basketball game i went to, Spurs=white Celtics=green

Spring Break!

This week we did not learn anything new in our world geography class because it was spring break. Our teacher though, still wanted to continue our discussion on Darfur, so she put up on the culture exchange website a darfur discussion and many people have responded. I think it was a really good idea.

This week i did many things since there was no school. I went to Galveston. Galveston is a city on the coast of Texas. There was once a hurricane there. It destroyed almost anything. it even ruined the chance of Galveston becoming a huge city, but Galveston is still a good place for tourists :). I also went fishing. I caught only one fish, but my little brother caught 14!!!!! Everyone, but me and my friend (2 out of 5) cuaght a carp. Carp are usually pretty big fish. My friends caught 4-8 pound carps. What carp did i catch.....NONE. Absolutely nothing. I was so dissapointed. We fished on the perdanales river, which is about 1 hour from austin if you drive. I also went to Bull Creek. Bull Creek is one of the few places in austin that is a off leash park. Off leash parks don't require dogs to be on leashes. It may be annoying to some people, but the dogs love it! I went there to relax and just enjoy my spring break. Finally a time where i was free and had no homework to do! My spring break was amazing!!!!

Darfur

This week in our geogoraphy class we did our socratic seminat about Rwanda and on Darfur. The one in Rwanda was about how the genocide there was really bad. It also discussed that if you were seeing it happen and you didn't do anything about it, you were you also involved with the genocide. It was an intense discussion. I thought i would do bad on it, biy at the end it was much easier than I thought. On friday, our class had another socratic seminar, but this one was on Darfur. It was almost the same as the Rwanda seminar. It was about how nobody is helping in Darur and what is going on there. It was an also intense discussion.
This weeek me and my friend went and downlaoded drives for our computers. My computer had gotten this really bad screen called the blue screen of seath. It occurs when some virus goes and deletes one of your computer's registry files. In my case it was the windows login file. I had to go and reinstall the computer completely and after that i had to go and install all the drives for my computer. I had a lot of help doing this since my dad workls at Dell. Dell has a national headquarter at Austin. A lot of people work there. Lately Dell hasn't been doing so well, but they are still a help because they are easier to contact from Austin since they are only about 15 minutes from where i live! It has alos caused the community in Austin (were i live at) to flourish.

Post for week of 2/24-3/01

This week in geography we learned about Africa. Africa is a big continent with a lot of big problems. We especially learned about the mass killings going on in Rwanda. It was pretty intense. We are going to have a Socratic seminar (debate/discussion) on this Rwanda problem. We are taking notes on a movie we watched as well as some stories about the mass killings going on in Rwanda.
This week i had a pretty relaxing week. I watched some television, played on my computer and went to downtown Austin. One place I went was to the river walk. There is a huge river walk in San Antonio, but there is also one in Austin. It is about 5 miles (8-10 kilometers). After walking/running that I was kind of tired, so I went to Amy's Ice Cream. In case you don't know what Amy's Ice Cream is, it is a store that sells the best Ice cream ever. The people that work there also flip the ice cream in the air and allow you to chose almost any topping to put on your ice cream. It is truly amazing. After I ate there ice cream, I went back home and relaxed for the rest of the week. I also started playing tennis this week as well as playing guitar. it was really fun!

Blog on school and myself

Hello everybody!

I am here to tell yopu about what i have been learning about in World Geography and also about myself.

Well first of all, in world Geography we have learned a lot of things. we explored North America, South America, Europe, Russia, and now were starting to learn about Africa! For each region we learn we discuss the geogrpahy of the region, the history of the region, culture of the region, and the current events in that region. In fact, we do a current event about our region every other week. My favorite region so far has been Europe because for me it is the most interesting, but the other regions are also interesting.
Now, a little bit about myself. I was born in Austin, Texas on June 18, 1993. 2 weeks later i moved all the way to Scotland! I don't remember Scotland at all, since i was only 2 weeks old when we moved there. Half a year later, my family and I moved back to Austin and we have not moved since. Every summer we leave Austin and do som traveling. I have been to California, New York, Florida, Las Vegas, Italy, France, and Israel. I enjoy it a lot since it is a break from school and it is really fun. I like Austin because it's nice over here. We have a lot of trees and the weather is very nice. The heat may be too much some times, but at least it doesn't get so cold here that we have to put seven layers of clothing!!!!
Well now you know a little bit about me and what I laern in World Geogrpahy.

Hope you enjoed this Post!!!!
